FEATURE 5: BOX SCRUB
Attributes:
·
distribution of box scrub
Objective 5: Identify areas of natural box scrub and manage these areas to maintain a favourable condition.
Rationale
In historic terms the box scrub occurring on Norbury Park would have been a much more significant feature in the landscape than at present. The major box hedge adjacent to part of the front drive is a good example of this. It is unsure whether this is from local natural stock or has been planted. Again with the incursion of natural regeneration the box scrub has become less significant in the landscape and the chance of natural box regeneration has been reduced. To maintain and increase the current population of box scrub the following management techniques will be employed including removal of invasive species. Also the box hedge up the front drive will need to be formalised to ensure it retains its shape.
