FEATURE 4: YEW TREES
Attributes:
·
distribution of trees
Objective 4: Identify clumps and individual yew trees and maintain in a favourable condition.
Rationale
In historic terms the yew trees occurring on Norbury Park would have been a much more significant feature in the landscape than at present. Some of the individual trees denoted parish boundaries. Many of these trees are of roughly a similar age and size. With the incursion of natural regeneration the yew trees have become less significant in the landscape. In some circumstances planting may be required and every effort should be made to obtain a locally native (downland) seed source. To maintain and increase the current population of yew trees a number of management techniques will be employed including removal of invasive species and initiating yew planting schemes.
