bullet1 Resources

The main funding for the site is decided upon and provided by Hampshire County Council, with some funds coming from Forest Enterprise. ( normally in terms of  manpower or materials)

The need to generate income through acceptable recreational activities has to be balanced against ecological nature of the site. Fortunately  grant aiding has     been available through schemes such as Woodland Grant and ESA, and this means that some form of income can be credited against  Conservation / Site     Management work.

The sheep flock also generates income from the sale of lambs and the sheep     Premium Payment. The Country Park has a sheep quota for 221 ewes.

Oxenbourne Down LNR is attracting some limited funding from the Reserves     Enhancement Scheme Via the Hants Wildlife Trust. But payments under this     scheme are unlikely to last the life of this Management Plan.

More recently English Nature has agreed to to grant aid habitat management     work in Oxenbourne Down as well as on Butser Hill.

It should be remembered that funding through many of the Agri-schemes may     well become harder to obtain  by exchequer funded bodies such as HCC.  It is     vital that other forms of funding are explored to secure a long term future for     the conservation

Of this valuable site and allow us to enhance the status of Butser / Oxenbourne     to that of  National Nature Reserve.
