3. Operational aims & actions
The operational objectives of a management plan describe what has to be achieved during the period of the plan to move all the features of the site into a favourable condition.
Individual objectives should be specific to a feature or group of features, measurable and achievable within the plan period. To allow the condition of features to be monitored, one or more measurable attributes are identified for each feature.
An attribute is a characteristic of a feature which can be measured to provide an indication of its condition. For each feature of interest it should be possible to define one or more attributes for which targets can be set to assess how close management is to its objectives.
'Objectives with attributes' are the basis for the Conservation Management System (CMS) software database that has been developed and promoted by the CMS Consortium adopted by English Nature for planning and recording conservation management plans.  The following links connect with examples of how the CMS logic can be applied to some of the features of the Ruislip Woodlands operational management plan.
