The small colonial settlements of the English and Dutch were intermixed along the coast between Boston and Chesapeake Bay, a tiny part of the territory to be colonised.  In 1660  the Dutch posessions in New Amsterdam and along the Hundson and Delaware rivers were handed over the the English at the treated of Breda in 1667.
