Monitor the poopulation breeding success, survival, colony extent, effect on other species of fauna and flora, effect on other species.  Control if required
1 Species management option b2 control and monitor
  • Monitor the population each year by full census using established methods
  • Map the extent of the colonies each year.
  • Monitor breeding success each year in a study plot on the Neck (by EGI under NCC contract) - see also study & research below.
  • Monitor adult survival by colour ringing and observation (by EGI under JNCC contract).
  • Describe where possible, the direct effects of LBB Gulls on other species of fauna and flora.
  • Control gull colonies by agreed methods subject to annual review of policy and methods by management committee. The review to especially consider any population changes on the reserve and nationally.
2 Study and research option C2 specialist facility
  • Promote studies of the breeding biology or at least more detailed recording of annual prodivity to understand more perfectly the population dynamics.
  • Promote feeding studies of the adults at sea and on the mainland.
  • Promote studies of the effects of the colonies on the vegetation. Especially to assess likely changes in response future changes in the gull population
