  • If present in Spring, restrict access to all persons to the breeding area
  • Monitor breeding success by observation of young from hides.
  • Submit breeding data to BTO on nest record cards
  • Submit data to county recorder and to the Rare Birds Breeding Panel
Note- this schedule 1 (closed season) bird is a spasmodic breeder in the UK but bred on Skomer in 1988 and 1989 and tried to breed in 1990 and 1991
In breeding season shows preference for shallow eutrophic open aquatic habitats (Cramp et al 1985)
