The Role of Information
Information on sustainable development and sustainable behaviour needs to be of a high
standard, consistent and easy to understand. It needs to be readily available where ever
decisions regarding sustainable consumption take place, this includes;
-
• in the home
-
• in the work place
-
• where we buy goods and services
-
• where we travel
-
• at leisure facilities
-
• at school/college/university

All sectors must help to integrate sustainability by educating and involving people, this
will help to raise awareness and encourage positive changes in behaviour.
When the public were asked where they went to seek advice or information on
sustainability issues, nearly 50% of those surveyed looked to the internet for
information4. Figure 2 shows the most popular methods the pubic accessed information
and advice.
