Integrated coastal zone management
(ICZM) is a process for the management
of the coast using an
integrated approach for all aspects of the coastal zone, including
geographical, ownership and governance boundaries, as an aspect of sustainable
development.
This concept was formulated in 1992 during the
Earth Summit of Rio de Janeiro. The policy
regarding ICZM is set out in the proceedings of the summit within
Agenda 21 of the Summit, Chapter
17. This mind map delineates
a comprehensive educational format for a strategic level plan which leads to
operational projects.
